Casper is the largest member of our Bank Farm team, and he’s turning heads. Standing at an impressive 18.2hh, he is a striking figure on the yard and a wonderful example of the iconic Suffolk Punch: a powerful, calm and genuinely kind heavy horse.
The Suffolk Punch is one of Britain’s oldest native heavy horse breeds, but sadly also one of the rarest, with numbers critically low hovering around the 300 mark globally. This is astonishing and makes them one of the more endangered horse breeds. Known for their chestnut colouring, strength and dependable nature, they were once the backbone of British agriculture.
Being able to ride a Suffolk Punch is a rare experience in itself – but riding one as big as Casper is truly unique. He represents a piece of living history, and we’re incredibly proud and privileged to give him a home here at Bank Farm.
At 18.2hh, Casper is enormous, even for a draft horse. He’s as broad as he is tall, with the strength and presence you’d expect, yet paired with the sweetest, kindest nature.
Despite his size, due to his showing history, he is surprising agile, making him a pleasure to ride in the menage, as well as out on a hack.
